Monthly Archives: September 2004

Yesterday morning was off to a horrible start.. I woke, went to let Danny out of the laundry room.. and what do I find.. first of all he is soaked.. and the floor is flooded.. The sump pump was not working and everything was a mess… luckily it did not go to the computer area.

So I woke up Angel and he had to go take care of it. Before he left for work everything was fine.. til about 2 hours later.. ugh.. so I was fighting with it all day.. I was not in a good mood. ugh..

Today I am just rushing like mad to get everything done. I leave for RI tomorrow morning.. so much to do. but I shocked myself this morning. I woke up at 6am and had breakfast ready at 6:30am. David had asked me to make breakfast for him (very rare that he asks) and hubby had to go get the tires replaced.. so we all sat down to scrambled eggs (from my chicks), bacon and toast.. shocking.. I only make breakfast for the family on Saturdays and it is usually a late breakfast. I tried to make breakfast every morning but David and Angel are not early eaters.. so I just quit doing it.

Tonight we are watching Lost (taped from yesterday because we were watching Smallville). Last week was so suspenseful. Of course we have to go shopping first.

Here are a few things for today.. and I taste like Bread.. Well, Of course I do.. I am addicted to the stuff.. Oh btw.. I have been avoided bread (although there were a few moments of relapse) for about a month now.. and have lost 8lbs.. whoo hoo.. sounds good to me.

What Flavour Are You? I taste like Bread.I taste like Bread.

I am a staple in almost everyone’s diet. Friends like me are a complement to any other friends I get on with almost everyone, remaining mostly in the background, but providing substance when it would otherwise be lacking. What Flavour Are You?

xcn

You’re a Spring. You usually are very close-knit
with your friends and value everyone freidnship
you have. You’re a real people person and
everyone loves how friendly you are. You’re
good with encouraging people but usually don’t
like to be the center of attention. You are a
social butterfly and probably are in several
circles of friends but it’s just because you’re
well liked and you make people comfortable.
You’re both fun and wise but you are very
realistic about life.

It is 7:18am.  I have been up since 6am and for no reason.  David is sick and staying home today.  I wake Angel up in 15 minutes.  I am so tired.. getting 5 hours of sleep nightly doesn’t help at all.. ugh..

Annaleah definately has an interesting mind.  She was just in a story telling mood yesterday.  She told me she had a dream at naptime.  She said Mommy and Daddy were outside and their was a monster.. and he was scary.. he was a big scary monster.. and he wanted to get me.  He took off my eyes.. and he took off my nose and he went in my mouth.. and maybe he was choking me.. (imitates choking now).. I killed him with a butterfly.

Ok.. someone please tell me where she gets this stuff.. LOL.  She watches PBS, Blues Clues, Wiggles, and right now is fascinated with the Land Before Time Videos (which I bought for a dollar each at the Goodwill.. whoo hoo)

Talk about an imagination.

Well, I must get Angel’s coffee in the thermos, I’ll be back later.. I hope.

Gweneveire

Your medieval name is: Gweneveire. You are
innocent, quiet, beautiful and angelic. You
harbor an inner beauty and you usually keep to
yourself, following the lines of conformity.
You’re totally innocent and loyal.

What is your Medieval name?

Sorry I have been MIA.  I have been so busy, helping Angel with outside projects, decluttering and planning this shower.. ugh.  I want to thank those of you that gave me suggestions .. it looks like this thing is coming together.

And for everyone who prayed for my brother, Mike, Thank you.  He is doing well and right now plans to stay in Florida.

My baby girl woke up this am with the sniffles.. and we decided to stay home from church..

So far that is all she has.. any natural ways to help her feel better..

Also.. I feel so guilty keeping her and myself from church over a runny nose.. I know so many that would still go to church.. what would you do??

will I ever learn??

not thinking, I gave her the tissue box so she could blow her nose.. upon re entering the room.. I discover that the box definately covers the entire couch when removed from the box and crumbled.. ugh..

Mike in Pensacola

Please keep my brother, Mike, in your thoughts and prayers. He lives in Pensacola Florida. He went to the local bowling alley to wait out the hurricane. At around 2am when it hit, they lost their power. He called my parents around 3am to find out what was going on around him, they had no news inside the bowling alley. The next day they went outside to see the damage, the bowling alley roof is messed up and he lost his mirror on the car.. the winds were still pretty bad so they stayed in the alley a bit longer.

After some time, he decided to go home and see if the apartment was still there. He said the streets were a mess, roofs and sidings missing on the homes. His apartment is still there.. There is a 6pm curfew.

He called my mom and said they still didn’t have power.. they don’t expect to for about 3 weeks. He wanted to know if we can find out if the Hilton is still standing. The ohly thing I could find is the pensacola newspaper said there was nothing on pensacola beach that was untouched.. So it looks like he doesn’t have a job for at least 3 months

He got an offer for a job back in RI and my parents want him to come home.. but his car won’t make it.. he has alot of money in the bank… but he can’t get it out at this time, and no one can leave or enter Pensacola at this point.. so he is really really stuck..

Street Fair

Thursday evening, we went to the Willimantic Street Fair. It was great.. There are so many different types of food from italian and spanish to Ukranian. Annaleah even had a blast. She actually bounced in the moonbounce which she never ever does. It was a nice evening out..

Chicken Coop

Well the chickens are in their coop.. they were not happy at all when I took away their cage.. one chick preferred to be out in the rain then inside.. lol.. but now they all go in at night.. Yeah! We still need to work on the nests for them. I did put down peat moss yesterday and there are still a few finishing touches we need to do.

Showerless Bride

I just found out that my niece’s mom will not be getting any type of shower or jack and jill before her wedding. Her wedding is in 3 weeks! Well, I don’t think that is right and I want to throw her a quick shower. I have already spoken to her fiance and have a general idea. but I would love any ideas, suggestions etc. Since they are paying for the wedding themselves and have been living on their own for a very long time. I would like to suggestion gifts of money.. but I don’t know the appropriate way to do this. Suggestions?? Please??

Well, we have had a busy weekend.. we did a few things.. and found a really cheap laptop (actually notebook) at a computer show for 185.00.. Annaleah is loving it!

Then we went to the Taste of Italy in Norwich.  Not bad at all.. however.. you end up spending quite a bit of money on the food.. yikes..

Today I have been in frantic cleaning mode.. I am so tired of my house and have been feeling very inadequate.  So I decided to post pics for my online challenges.. so that is what I did.. I didn’t accomplish much in way of alot of rooms.. but thing I got quite alot done..  Here are some pics..

The entertainment center was put together last night.. and left in the middle of the floor.. lol

Don’t mind the walls.. we took down the paneling and have lots to do there

And to explain a bit about challenges.. I have two close online friends.. we get together every day and do two different types of challenges.. we do timed challenges.. when we set the timer for 15 or 20 minutes.. and just go mad.. then come back and report and go again.. and sometimes reporting challenges are best.. we just report when we finish something.. it is really great.. if all 3 of us are on we get into a chat.. but it is great for im’ing one person also (we find the more people.. the more likely we are to chat..lol)

Oh.. and for the best surprise ever.. I went to let the chicks out and look what I found!

We got our first Egg!!  The brown one is from the chick and the white is from our fridge.. we buy large.. Our chicks are supposed to lay large eggs.. but this is not bad at all for the first one..

So now my hubby is in a rush to get that coop done.. shouldn’t have waited so long..

and here is anna’s reaction when I showed her the egg and said.. “Look Anna, the chicken laid an egg!”

Well, Annaleah finally fell asleep and the house is in decent shape.. so off to bed for me.

Tomorrow I plan on working in my room and David and Anna both have a doc appt.  Have a great night!

Every day when things happen, I tell myself to journal about it.. but every evening I don’t have the energy and say.. I will do it tomorrow.  Well, it isn’t getting done and I don’t even remember anything anymore.. ugh.. I will get better at this.

Right now, it is 7:50pm.  Annaleah is in the tub, David is at the store with his friend, and Angel is at church.  Let’s see how long it takes me to write..

Our weekend was very quiet.  On Monday we decided to try to look for Letterboxes.. I was alot of fun.  Annaleah loved it.  If you have never heard of Letterboxing.. go check out www.letterboxing.org .  There are boxes planted all over the place.. to go you start off with a stamp, stamp pad, and a journal.  You go to the area and follow the clues.. here is what we did..

We started off here at the dog trail

We follow the clues

There is a paw print

Mommy, this is scary (she has never been in the woods before)

I don’t think I like it here

Another paw print!

This is kinda fun??

Here is the end.. Now what?? Where is the rock wall?

There it is ..

Anything in there?

Look what we found!

What is in here??.. a journal of visitors

Ok.. we are putting our stamp in there.  Along with Annaleah’s name and date.

Oooh.. their stamp is homemade.

Our First Stamp in our Journal!

That was fun!  Can we go on another treasure hunt, daddy?

The next letterbox is near this pond..

Is that it?? Daddy??

Is that it under the sticks?

Our second stamp (a baseball stamp)

I get to play with the water now.

It was a good day..

She truly had a blast.. especially when the first hunt resembled Blues Clues!  We had other areas also printed out.. but unfortunately you need a compass to get to them.. and the clues are alot harder than these two were..

We are also planning on looking them up in other cities when we visit family and friends..

some of the hiding spots also have a historical story involved.. great history lesson.

Well, I am done for now.. lots to do before Annaleah’s ear appointment tomorrow.. Thanks for reading!

The Price of Children

I have repeatedly seen the breakdown of the cost of raising a child, but
this is the first time I have seen the rewards listed this way.  It’s
nice, really nice!!

The government recently calculated the cost of raising a child from birth
to 18 and came up with $160,140 for a middle income family. Talk about
sticker shock!

That doesn’t even touch college tuition.

But $160,140 isn’t so bad if you break it down. It translates into
$8,896.66 a year, $741.38 a month, or $171.08 a week. That’s a mere $24.24
a day!

Just over a dollar an hour.

Still, you might think the best financial advice is don’t have children if
you want to be “rich.”   Actually, it is just the opposite.   What do you
get for your $160,140?

Naming rights –  First, middle, and last!

Glimpses of God every day.

Giggles…. under the covers every night.

More love than your heart can hold

Butterfly kisses and Velcro hugs.

Endless wonder over rocks, ants, clouds, and warm cookies.

A hand to hold, usually covered with jelly or chocolate.

A partner for blowing bubbles, flying kites, building sandcastles, &

skipping down the sidewalk in the pouring rain.

Someone to laugh yourself silly with, no matter what the boss said or

how your stocks performed that day.

For $160,140, you never have to grow up

You get to finger-paint, carve pumpkins, play hide-and-seek, catch

lightning bugs, and never stop believing in Santa Claus.

You have an excuse to keep reading the Adventures of Piglet and Pooh,
watching Saturday morning cartoons, going to Disney movies, and wishing on
stars.

You get to frame rainbows, hearts, and flowers under refrigerator magnets and collect

spray painted noodle wreaths for Christmas, hand prints set in clay for Mother’s Day,

and cards with backward letters for Father’s Day.

For $160,140, there is no greater bang for your buck. You get to be a hero
just for

retrieving a Frisbee off the garage roof,

taking the training wheels off a bike,

removing a splinter,

filling a wading pool,

coaxing a wad of gum out of bangs,

and coaching a baseball team that never wins but always gets treated to ice cream regardless.

You get a front row seat to history to witness the first step, first word,

first bra, first date, and first time behind the wheel.

You get to be immortal.

You get another branch added to your family tree, and if you’re lucky, a
long list of limbs in your obituary called grandchildren and great grandchildren.

You get an education in psychology, nursing, criminal justice,
communications, and human sexuality that no college can match.

In the eyes of a child, you rank right up there under God. You have all
the power to heal a boo-boo, scare away the monsters under the bed, patch

a broken heart, police a slumber party,

ground them forever, and love them without limits,

so ….. . . one day they will, like you, love without counting the cost.
