Monthly Archives: August 2005

It is a little after 7am.  I slept on the couch with the girls
near me.  I woke at 6am to find Kaitlynn awake also.  But she
was pretending to I let her do that for an hour.  I
find it very humourous that she does that in the morning.  She is
an early riser. (they went to bed at 11 last night) .. I just turned on
Clifford for them.. Jade is up now.  I am cleaning and getting
ready for my morning.

The kitchen is a disaster right now.  We are having problems with
the fridge door.  Over the last few years (the fridge is almost 4
years old), Anna has been hanging on the door.. and it started to shift
downward.. which causes it to now open on its own.  Angel tried to
reset the door the other day.. When we came home with the girls
yesterday.. we found it open.  So he decided to switch the door to
open on the right instead.. not an easy job with very humid weather..
sweat was literally dripping off our faces.. I had to clean under the
fridge, Angel cleaned behind.. because when we moved it.. it was bad..
horrible even..

It is closing now.. temporarily.. we have to buy a new fridge soon.. ugh.

On the way home yesterday, we took the girls to Cracker Barrel.. I just that place.. 5 of us.. 21.88.. Gotta love it!

Have you ever heard of Fitness Fables??
Annaleah loves this videos.. they tell a story using movements to get
the kids up and exercising.. she watched one video about 3 times a
day.. Drove poor David  I picked up another one at the
library yesterday and the girls were doing it last night.
Fun!  I also picked up the 2nd Matrix.  Would you believe I
have never seen them.. except for small parts when others watch.
Last week I watched Matrix.. with closed captioning.. took all day.. I
watched in 15 min shots throughout the day.. (I can’t sit and watch
something for too long with Annaleah these days.. ).. I just had to
pick up the second one.. don’t know how I am gonna watch with three
girls in the house.. lol.

Well, I should go and finish
prepping for our day.. we have church, pick up chicken feed and grab
something offered on freecycle.. then hopefully it is the pool this
afternoon.. it is hot already!

Have a great Sunday!

I was so busy yesterday.. I never had time to post..

the kitty went home.. but not before I took a bunch of photos..  I
could not pick just one.. I just love Anna’s expressions..

She did awesome when the kitten left.. I am so proud of her!

Today is another busy day.  We take Danny to the vet this morning
for his shots.  I just brushed his fur.. oh my.. enough hair to
build a medium sized puppy was on my deck.. I was thinking about taking
a pic.. but the wind was blowing.. and I am not keep to letting my yard
get covered in

Then we go pick up Jade and Kate.. we have an exciting week ahead..

lmramos99 has fragile contents which may break!

This Little Thing stayed with me all morning..

I just couldn’t resist taking pictures…

She is just the cutest little thing..

I am gonna miss her..

Mommy, why didn’t you tell me you were taking pictures..

Anna doing what she loves best.. getting messy..

We had 5 teenagers in the house.. 5.. It has been a long time since
David brought alot of friends over.  Anna had to be the center of
attention of course.. and she was thrilled Marty showed up.  She
ran to the door exclaiming.. “Mommy!  Look!  Marty is
here!!”  The highlight is when she decided to play outside.. and
brought in a worm.. (she loves worms.. I do not). I told her promptly..
worms belong outside.. she said.. she wanted to show her friends.. and
I thought about it and said.. “sure”.. so she went downstairs.. and I
hear alot of “Ewwww!”… LOL.. I had to chunkle at that..

Later, we were trying to get the chickens back into the pen, and Annaleah found something

A green egg from my baby Aracauna.. how awesome is that.. we were not expecting eggs for another 2 months..
The other egg is the ones I get daily.. from the hens..

Anna is filthy in the above pic and promptly got a bath.. I could barely stand to look at her nails.. eww..

One more pic to share.. I wasn’t going to.. and it didn’t come out like I wanted it to.. but David said it would be ok to share.

David and Sarah.  Today is her birthday – Happy Birthday Sarah!
She is taking the kitty home today.. I am gonna miss her.. Oh and she
named her M.J… (Did I tell you Anna loves Spiderman and is obsessed
with M.J… lol)

Well, we are off to dental appointments this morning.. (I don’t wanna go!  and yes I am whining )

Have a Great Day!

P.S.  Oh.. I almost forgot.. I made a peach cobbler last night.. I got the recipe from kensjo site.  And I gotta say.. It was delish with Vanilla Bean Ice Cream!  Yum!

S. Korean man dies after 50 hours of computer games

Tue Aug 9, 1:21 PM ET

SEOUL (Reuters) – A South Korean man who played computer
games for 50 hours almost non-stop died of heart failure
minutes after finishing his mammoth session in an Internet
cafe, authorities said Tuesday.

** no words here.. I just can’t imagine**

I am so excited right now.. went
shopping last night for school things.. and put contact paper on a
tri-fold board that I am making a bulletin board out of.  School
is going to be incredibly awesome this year.  (anna’s first
year).. can’t wait.  We start on Sept 5th.  This keeps up I
may start earlier.. lol..

Yesterday I spent alot of time going through boxes .. and boxes of
stuff.. Last night we dragged 3 boxes of books/magazines to the curb
and a bag of miscellaneous items…. it was very freeing..

Today I am going to work on Anna’s room.. We pick up the girls on Saturday and I can’t wait to have them here.

BTW: thanks for all the comments.. I am glad to hear I am being read.. lol.. was feeling a bit lonely for a while.. although susiefan has stuck with me..

Have an awesome day!..

Look who is visiting us for a few days…

Isn’t she adorable???

David got this precious thing as a birthday gift for his
girlfriend.  She will be staying with us for just a few
days.  Annaleah is loving it.  I wanted to take pics of Anna
with her.. but would you believe the batteries died on me!  So now
they are recharging so I can take more pics tonight.

She is very friendly.. a little weary of Danny though.. Danny is a good
boy and avoids her because he senses her fear.. Baby (our cat) is not
happy.. she is on the deck and just glares in the window.. she refuses
to come in when the kitten is around.  The kitten is spending a
bit of time in David’s room when Baby comes in..just in case.

**From my comment section:

are you hard of hearing?  I’m sorry if that is a rude question.  I just
figured since you couldn’t hear at the theater and you wanted close
captioning that you might be somewhat hearing impaired.

Not rude at all.  I used to
work with alot of kids since I was 15.. so I am more used to “what is
that in your ear?”  LOL..

Yes I am hearing impaired.. I have 60% loss in both ears.  Mom
says I was very young and had massive ear problems..lots of middle ear
infections.. even bloody ones.  The doc in RI said I was way too
young to have tubes put in and tonsils and adenoids removed.  When
we moved MA.. I was about 2 and the doc there was very upset about it
.. and I immediately went in for surgery..

It worked for quite a while.. When I was about 7 the infections started
up again.. I was always sick as a child.. (mom now blames that on the
fact that she was a smoker)  I missed alot of school and started
getting yelled at alot for not ‘paying attention’ when mom spoke to
me.. I promptly went to the doc and it turned out my adenoids grew
back.. so surgery was scheduled again.. Unfortunately this time.. the
hearing did not come back.  So I have worn aids since the age of 7
and ended up staying back in second grade.. which I was happy about
because I was tortured in school.. all because I was always sick.. Kids
can be quite mean.

Family history:
Mom always wears aids, it is believed to be from when she was hit by a
car at a very young age.  My brother, Bill, also wears aids.. He
is 5 years younger then me.. and also suffered lots of
infections.  Mike (10.5 months younger than Bill) has perfect
hearing.  I have the most damage.

My Children:
This scared me tremendously with my children.. David had quite a few
infections as a child.. but the doc was quick to nip it in the butt..

However, Annaleah was born with a cleft palate.. and I was told she
would suffer from alot of ear infections.. so with my history and her
cleft.. I was really worried.. I pumped breastmilk for an entire year
for her.. she had tubes put in during her palate surgery at 8 months
old.. She never had an ear infection.. ever!  She had fluid in her
ears quite a few times.. but never infected..

When she turned 2 the fluid got bad.. tubes had fallen out.. and she
was not saying her vowels anymore.. the birth to 3 speech therapist was
concerned as I was.. Her doc was called in on military duty.. and the
doc that took over was overwhelmed with all the patient load.
When her doc came back about 2 months later.. a hearing test was
scheduled immediately.. she had fluid but still no infections and had a
hearing loss.. he performed surgery asap and got new tubes put in.. she
had another test and her hearing was great!  However, we had to
reteach her to talk correctly.. it took about 5 months to fix her
speech.. (she could hear the words fine.. but had gotten used to saying
it wrong)..

She has had 1 infection in her life.. and I treated it
homeopathically.. I did not want her on antibiotics.. (we lived on it
as children.. and I am all messed up now).. however, I did tell myself
that if the infection came back soon after.. we would take her in.. but
it never did..

The Lord has blessed us tremendously.. however, I will add.. Angel and
I do not smoke.. I am sure that has a massive effect on the outcome as
well.. BTW.. Mom has been smoke free for 21 years.. I think.. (I am
sure she will correct me if I am wrong)..

Wow.. didn’t mean to write a book.. LOL..

P.S.. I should add.. anna just went to the last year.. her tubes have
been out for a year now.. and she still has no fluid in there.. the doc
is going to give her til December and schedule a hearing test.. if she
is still doing great.. he is gonna consider her cleared from any
trouble.  He has done wonderfully with keeping her in check..

Let’s take a step back in time…

*warning.. very graphic post ahead.*

August 7th, 1999

A few days before the girls and I treated ourselves to a movie “Runaway Bride” and dinner at Chelo’s.  It was a great night.. and my last with some of these girls.  I laughed and cried at this movie.

I received this email last
week and thought it was very important to share..
I myself have never
heard of this.. it is a horrible situation.
I have also checked
various sites to make sure this was not a hoax.  It is not.

Please forward this to anyone you know.. this is scary.. My emails are

First I’m going to tell you a little about me and my family. My name is
Jeff. I am a Police Officer for a city which is known nationwide for
its crime rate. We have a lot of gangs and drugs. At one point we were
# 2 in the nation in homicides per capita. I also have a police K-9
named Thor. He was certified in drugs and general duty. He retired at 3
years old because he was shot in the line of duty. He lives with us now
and I still train with him because he likes it. I always liked the fact
that there was no way to bring drugs into my house. Thor wouldn’t allow
it. He would tell on you. The reason I say this is so you understand
that I know about drugs. I have taught in schools about drugs. My wife
asks all our kids at least once a week if they used any drugs. Makes
them promise they wont.

I like building computers occasionally and started building a new one
in February 2005. I also was working on some of my older computers.
They were full of dust so on one of my trips to the computer store I
bought a 3 pack of DUST OFF. Dust Off is a can of compressed air to
blow dust off a computer. A few weeks later when I went to use one of
them they were all used. I talked to my kids and my two sons both said
they had used them on their computer and messing around with them. I
yelled at them for wasting the 10 dollars I paid for them. On February
28 I went back to the computer store. They didn’t have the 3 pack which
I had bought on sale so I bought a single jumbo can of Dust Off. I went
home and set it down beside my computer.

On March 1st,  I left for work at 10 PM. Just before midnight my wife
went down and kissed Kyle goodnight. At 5:30 am the next morning Kathy
went downstairs to wake Kyle up for school, before she left for work.
He was propped up in bed with his legs crossed and his head leaning
over. She called to him a few times to get up. He didn’t move. He would
sometimes tease her like this and pretend he fell back asleep. He was
never easy to get up. She went in and shook his arm. He fell over. He
was pale white and had the straw from the Dust Off can coming out of
his mouth. He had the new can of Dust Off in his hands. Kyle was dead.

I am a police officer and I had never heard of this. My wife is a nurse
and she had never heard of this. We later found out from the coroner,
after the autopsy, that only the propellant from the can of Dust off
was in his system. No other drugs. Kyle had died between midnight and 1

I found out that using Dust Off is being done mostly by kids ages 9
through 15. They even have a name for it. It’s called dusting. A take
off from the Dust Off name. It gives them a slight high for about 10
seconds. It makes them dizzy. A boy who lives down the street from us
showed Kyle how to do this about a month before. Kyle showed his best
friend. Told him it was cool and it couldn’t hurt you. Its just
compressed air. It can’t hurt you. His best friend said no.

Kyle was wrong. It’s not just compressed air. It also contains a
propellant called R2. Its a refrigerant like what is used in your
refrigerator. It is a heavy gas. Heavier than air. When you inhale it,
it fills your lungs and keeps the good air, with oxygen, out. That’s
why you feel dizzy, buzzed. It decreases the oxygen to your brain, to
your heart. Kyle was right. It can’t hurt you. IT KILLS YOU. The
horrible part about this is there is no warning. There is no level that
kills you. It’s not cumulative or an overdose; it can just go randomly,
terribly wrong. Roll the dice and if your number comes up you die. IT’S
NOT AN OVERDOSE. It’s Russian Roulette. You don’t die later. Or not
feel good and say I’ve had too much. You usually die as you’re
breathing it in. If not, you die within 2 seconds of finishing “the
hit.” That’s why the straw was still in Kyle’s mouth when he died. Why
his eyes were still open.

The experts want to call this huffing. The kids don’t believe it’s
huffing. As adults we tend to lump many things together. But it doesn’t
fit here. And that’s why it’s more accepted. There is no chemical
reaction. no strong odor. It doesn’t follow the huffing signals. Kyle
complained a few days before he died of his tongue hurting. It probably
did. The propellant causes frostbite. If I had only known.

It’s easy to say hey, it’s my life and I’ll do what I want. But it
isn’t. Others are always effected. This has forever changed our
family’s life. I have a hole in my heart and soul that can never be
fixed. The pain is so immense I can’t describe it. There’s nowhere to
run from it. I cry all the time and I don’t ever cry. I do what I’m
supposed to do but I don’t really care. My kids are messed up. One
won’t talk about it. The other will only sleep in our room at night.
And my wife, I can’t even describe how bad she is taking this. I
thought we were safe because of Thor. I thought we were safe because we
knew about drugs and talked to our kids about them.

After Kyle died another story came out. A Probation Officer went to the
school system next to ours to speak with a student. While there he
found a student using Dust Off in the bathroom. This student told him
about another student who also had some in his locker. This is a rather
affluent school system. They will tell you they don’t have a drug
problem there. They don’t even have a dare or plus program there. So
rather than tell everyone about this “new” way of getting high they
found, they hid it. The probation officer told the media after Kyle’s
death and they, the school, then admitted to it. I know that if they
would have told the media and I had heard, it wouldn’t have been in my

We need to get this out of our homes and school computer labs. Using
Dust Off isn’t new and some “professionals” do know about. It just
isn’t talked about much, except by the kids. They all seem to know
about it.

April 2nd was 1 month since Kyle died. April 5th would have been his
15th birthday. And every weekday I catch myself sitting on the living
room couch at 2:30 in the afternoon and waiting to see him get off the
bus. I know Kyle is in heaven but I can’t help but wonder If I died and
went to Hell.
