Zoo  Babies from around the World
http://www.boston.com/travel/gallery/zoo_babies/

This is a
submission to a Mothers day contest on the Ellen Show.

So, we had this great 10 year old cat named Jack who just recently died.
Jack was a great cat and the kids would carry him around and sit on him
and nothing ever bothered him. He used to hang out and nap all day long
on this mat in our bathroom.

Well we have 3 kids and at the time of this story they were 4 years old,
3 years old and 1 year old. The middle one is Eli. Eli really loves
chapstick. LOVES it. He kept asking to use my chapstick and then losing
it. So finally one day I showed him where in the bathroom I keep my
chapstick and how he could use it whenever he wanted to but he needed to
put it right back in the drawer when he was done.

Last year on Mother’s Day, we were having the typical rush around and
try to get ready for Church with everyone crying and carrying on. My two
boys are fighting over the toy in the cereal box. I am trying to nurse
my little
one at the same time I am putting on my make-up.
Everything is a mess and everyone has long forgotten that this is a
wonderful day to honor me and the amazing job that is motherhood.

We finally have the older one and and the baby loaded in the car and I
am looking for Eli. I have searched everywhere and I finally round the
corner to go into the bathroom. And there was Eli. He was applying my
chapstick very carefully to Jack’s . . . rear end. Eli looked right into
my eyes and said “chapped.” Now if you have a cat, you know that he is
right–their little butts do look pretty chapped.
And, frankly, Jack didn’t seem to mind.

And the only question to really ask at that point was whether it was the
FIRST time Eli had done that to the cat’s behind or the hundredth.

And THAT is my favorite Mother’s Day moment ever because it reminds us
that no matter how hard we try to civilize these glorious little
creatures,
there will always be that day when you realize they’ve been
using your chapstick on the cat’s butt.

What peace really looks like….

The Duck & the Devil

There was a little boy visiting his grandparents on their farm. He was given a slingshot to play with . He practiced in the woods; but he could never hit the target. Getting a little discouraged, he headed  back for dinner.

As he was walking back he saw Grandma's pet duck.   Just out of impulse, he let the slingshot fly, hit the duck square in the head and killed it. He was shocked and grieved!  In a panic, he hid the dead duck in the wood pile; only to see his sister  watching! Sally had seen it all, but she said nothing.

After lunch the next day Grandma said, "Sally, let's  wash the dishes"
But
Sally  said, "Grandma, Johnny told me he wanted to help in the kitchen."

Then she whispered to him, “Remember the duck?” So
   Johnny did the dishes.

Later that day, Grandpa asked if the children wanted to go fishing and   Grandma said, “I’m sorry but I need Sally to help make supper.”

Sally just smiled and said, “Well that’s all right
because Johnny told me   he wanted to help”

She whispered again, “Remember the duck?”

So Sally went fishing and Johnny stayed to help.

After several days of Johnny doing both his chores and Sally’s; he  finally  couldn’t stand it any longer.   He
came to Grandma and confessed that he had killed the duck. Grandma
knelt down, gave him a hug and said,  “Sweetheart, I know. You see, I
was standing at the window and I saw the whole thing, but because I love you, I forgave you. I was just wondering how long you  would let Sally make a  slave of you.”

Thought for the day and every day thereafter Whatever is in your past, whatever   you have done… and the devil keeps throwing it up in your face (lying, cheating, debt, fear, bad habits, hatred, anger, bitterness, etc.)…whatever it is…You need to know that God was standing at the window and He saw the whole thing. He has seen your whole life. He wants you to know that He loves you and   that you are forgiven.

He’s just wondering how long you will let the devil make a slave of you.   The great thing about God is that when you ask for forgiveness; He not only   forgives you, but He forgets. It is by God’s grace and mercy that we are saved.
Go ahead and make the difference in someones life today. Share this
with a friend and always remember: God is at the window!

—- DO YOU REMEMBER WHEN ..…?

All the girls had ugly gym uniforms?

It took 5 minutes for the TV warm up?

Nearly everyone’s Mom was at home when the kids got home from school?

Nobody owned a purebred dog?

When a quarter was a decent allowance?

You’d reach into a muddy gutter for a penny?

Your Mom wore nylons that came in two pieces?

All your male teachers wore neckties and female teachers had
their hair done every day and wore high heels?

You got your windshield cleaned, oil checked, and gas pumped, without asking, all for free, every time?
And you didn’t pay for air? And, you got trading stamps to boot?

Laundry detergent had free glasses, dishes or towels hidden inside the box?

It was considered a great privilege to be taken out to dinner
at a real restaurant with your parents?

They threatened to keep kids back a grade if they failed. . . and they did?

When a 57 Chevy was everyone’s dream car…to cruise,
peel out, lay rubber or watch submarine races, and people went steady?

No one ever asked where the car keys were
because they were always in the car,
in the ignition, and the doors were never locked?

Lying on your back in the grass with your friends
and saying things like, “That cloud looks like a “

and playing baseball with no adults to help kids with the rules of the game?

Stuff from the store came without safety caps and hermetic seals because no one had yet tried to poison a perfect stranger?

And with all our progress, don’t you just wish, just once,
you could slip back in time and savor the slower pace,
and share it with the children of today?

When being sent to the principal’s office was nothing
compared to the fate that awaited the student at home?

Basically we were in fear for our lives,
but it wasn’t because of drive-by shootings, drugs, gangs, etc.
Our parents and grandparents were a much bigger threat!
But we survived because their love was greater than the threat.

Send this on to someone who can still remember
Nancy Drew, the Hardy Boys, Laurel and Hardy,
Howdy Doody and the Peanut Gallery,
the Lone Ranger, The Shadow Knows,
Nellie Bell, Roy and Dale, Trigger and Buttermilk.

As well as summers filled with bike rides, baseball games,
Hula Hoops, bowling and visits to the pool,
and eating Kool-Aid powder with sugar.
Didn’t that feel good, just to go back and say, “Yeah, I remember that”?

I am sharing this with you today
because it ended with a double dog dare to pass it on.
To remember what a double dog dare is, read on.
And remember that the perfect age is somewhere between
old enough to know better and too young to care.

How many of these do you remember?

Candy cigarettes

Wax Coke-shaped bottles with colored sugar water inside
Soda pop machines that dispensed glass bottles

Coffee shops with tableside jukeboxes

Blackjack, Clove and Teaberry chewing gum

Home milk delivery in glass bottles with cardboard stoppers

Newsreels before the movie
P.F. Fliers

Telephone numbers with a word prefix…(Raymond 4-601).
Party lines

Peashooters
Howdy Doody

45 RPM records

Green Stamps
Hi-Fi’s

Metal ice cubes trays with levers
Mimeograph paper
Beanie and Cecil

Roller-skate keys
Cork pop guns
Drive ins

Studebakers

Washtub wringers
The Fuller Brush Man
Reel-To-Reel tape recorders
Tinkertoys

Erector Sets
The Fort Apache Play Set
Lincoln Logs

15 cent McDonald hamburgers

5 cent packs of baseball cards –
with that awful pink slab of bubble gum
Penny candy
35 cent a gallon gasoline

Jiffy Pop popcorn

Do you remember a time when…

Decisions were made by going “eeny-meeny-miney-moe”?
Mistakes were corrected by simply exclaiming, “Do Over!”?
“Race issue” meant arguing about who ran the fastest?
Catching the fireflies could happily occupy an entire
evening?

It wasn’t odd to have two or three “Best Friends”?

The worst thing you could catch from the opposite sex was “cooties”?

Having a weapon in school meant being caught with a slingshot?

A foot of snow was a dream come true?

Saturday morning cartoons weren’t 30-minute commercials for action figures?

“Oly-oly-oxen-free” made perfect sense?
Spinning around, getting dizzy, and falling down
was cause for giggles?

The worst embarrassment was being picked last for a team?
War was a card game?

Baseball cards in the spokes transformed any bike into a motorcycle?
Taking drugs meant orange-flavored chewable
aspirin?

Water balloons were the ultimate weapon?

If you can remember most or all of these, then you have
lived!!!!!!!

Excerpts from a Cat’s Diary
Day
983 of my captivity – My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre
little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while the
other inmates and I are fed hash or some sort of dry nuggets. Although
I make my contempt for the rations perfectly clear, I nevertheless must
eat something in order to keep up my strength. The only thing that
keeps me going is my dream of escape.

In
an attempt to disgust them, I once again vomit on the carpet. Today I
decapitated a mouse and dropped its headless body at their feet. I had
hoped this would strike fear into their hearts, since it clearly
demonstrates what I am capable of. However, they merely made
condescending comments about what a “good little hunter” I am.

There
was some sort of assembly of their accomplices tonight. I was placed in
solitary confinement for the duration of the event. However, I could
hear the noises and smell the food. I overheard that my confinement was
due to the power of “allergies.” I must learn what this means, and how
to use it to my advantage.

Today
I was almost successful in an attempt to assassinate one of my
tormentors by weaving around his feet as he was walking. I must try
this again tomorrow – but at the top of the stairs.

I
am convinced that the other prisoners here are flunkies and snitches.
The dog receives special privileges. He is regularly released – and
seems to be more than willing to return. He is obviously retarded. The
bird has got to be an informant. I observe him communicate with the
guards regularly. I am certain that he reports my every move. My
captors have arranged protective custody for him in an elevated cell,
so he is safe.

For now .

Annaleah collects the eggs each day from the shed. One day last week, I went with her.  At the entrance she looked up and said..

Hello Mr. Bumble Bee
May we walk through?

She informed me that he said ‘yes, you may’

She also asked if we could leave the shed.

Apparently, she has been having this conversation with Mr. Bumble Bee all week.

On Saturday, we were in the van getting ready to go to ballet..
A Bumble Bee went by the van.
Anna called out “Bye, Mr. Bumble Bee”

The next day she was going to introduce Daddy to Mr. Bumble Bee.. He wasn’t there.
Where did he go?
“Daddy, He went to go visit his sister. ”

Now she is heading out to the coop to see if he has gotten dressed and eaten his breakfast today.

Wow, it has been forever!  I skipped an entire month!  oops

There is alot I want to catch up on.. for now I will share yesterday..
Yesterday was a very interesting day for me.  Angel had
to bring the van in to have the alternator worked on.  I sat here
yesterday morning, waiting for him to leave (I have a thing about
cleaning in front of him, weird I know).  He suddenly looked at me and
said.. “You, wanna come?”.. I thought, sure!  So Anna and I rushed to
get dress and get ready to go.

Angel dropped us off at a nearby plaza and we walked around
Staples and Burlington Coat factory until he walked back from the
garage.  We walked over a highway bridge.. That was interesting to
Anna, being over the speeding cars. We walked around another plaza area
while just chatting and playing games with Anna (how many steps to the
next crack on the ground.. etc).  I stopped at Hallmark and picked up a
new Webkinz for her.  We walked around Petco a bit.  When we got to the
fish tanks we discovered Oranges in all the tanks.. We spoke with a
lady there and it turns out fish loves oranges.. so we purchased a tank
clip for fruits and veggies..

Then we walked over to Chili’s and relaxed and ate some
appetizers.. It was so nice to just take our time.  Then headed over to
Chuck E Cheese.  Purchased 10.00 of tokens (got 53 tokens) and just sat
doing Sudoku Puzzles while Anna played.  There were only a few families
there.  Adorable little ones.. I couldn’t help but watch.  Anna took
turns picking me or Daddy to play games with her.. Some we played
alone.  Then a family with older girls came in and Anna went and made a
friend.  She climbed in the tubes forever with about 3 girls.  Then we
packed up and left after a few hours there.

We wandered back over to Petco and checked out the dogs in
the grooming area, along with the birds.. I was looking to see what
kind of outdoor play yards they had for bunnies.. to price.  It is very
hard for me to spend 60.00 for an animal, suddenly I thought of a
harness and sure enough.. they had one for 8.00 for a bunny!  So we
picked that up then slowly headed back over the bridge. u003cbr>Just as we were walking over the bridge.. The cell rang and it was the garage saying the van was ready.  By this point I am dying.. lol.. So much pain.. It has been a long time since I have walked like that.  Anna and Angel went ahead of me to the garage.  By the time I got there, they were just coming out and ready to go.  I had never been so happy to see that van.  I took off my sneakers instantly.. whew.. nu003cbr>u003cbr>We drove over to Walmart and Anna bought a bunch of Littlest Pet stuff.. she spent all her birthday money.  Angel was a bit shocked and felt she should get other things.. but I didn't want any more stuffed animals and other cheap stuff in the house.  Anna and I had talked and I told her she could get homes for her little pets if she was willing to give away her fisher price people and homes.  She said she would even get rid of a bunch more she feels she is too old to play with now..  We purchased the Bissell green machine.  We had been talking about it for a few days now because of all the animals on our couch.  We had to get rid of an old couch because Baby was sick and peed on it (the cat).  We went without a couch for a year.  We didn't want this one to have to get tossed.  nu003cbr>u003cbr>As we were leaving, Angel was looking at grills.  He is always longing for a new one.. At the checkout he mentioned something about seeing what others have thrown out.  I told him that I didn't think that was worth it anymore.  We have had 3 grills that were other's trash.. We spend money on new pieces for it.. and then it is no good after a year or two.  I felt it would be better if he would go ahead and purchase one.  You should have seen his face light up.  It was as if a thousand dollars was dropped into his lap.  He said "today?" I said sure.. and off he went.  lolnu003cbr>u003cbr>When we got home it was 6pm.  Angel set up the grill immediately (his new toy) while Anna and I unraveled all of the tiny pieces out of the 4 pkgs of my littlest pets.. Then we took bubbles out for a quick walk in his new harness.. He was funny.. standing on his hind legs looking around.. After about 5 min of doing this.. he took off with anna in tow.. lol.  We invited the neighbor and his granddaughter over to see bubbles and we chatted a bit.. Then came back in.  Angel grilled up some burgers.. we sat, ate, chatted, anna showed daddy her new toys.. and he was ready for bed by 10pm.  n”,1]

(on his way to work) and us just hanging out at the library, maybe meet my friend steph somewhere and have a picnic lunch, etc.  I really think I should start doing that again.  Norwich is a city area and there is nothing to walk to here.  We also spoke of getting a membership at the Mystic Aquarium and he could drop us off there for a day.  Mystic Village is right there also.  nu003cbr>u003cbr>So, it was a great day.. but I am in so much pain.  I have a list to work on today.  I guess I will check out my new toy (lol) and use it to clean that couch today.  u003cbr>u003cbr>Oh, Prayer please.  We have been very lax with anna's schooling since it is only K.  However, Angel is not pleased.  She is having a hard time with the phonics and he wants me to go back to the basic alphabets with her.  He doesn't want her to have to 'guess' the letters.  He worked with her a bit the other night and is concerned.  she can read as, am, at, an, ax  but when she gets to 'has' she keeps saying sa.. she seems to get the letters out of order when there are more letters involved.. but she can read anything that ends in ax (seems to be her fave), tax, max.   I notice she is very fidgity when doing phonics vs math.  Angel wants me to devote more time with her.  I am trying to think of games to help her with alphabet recognition and I must spend more time on it.  So during this time I need to shut off my monitor.  10am is the best time for our schooling.. since around 11 she is ready to eat lunch and after that.. it seems harder for her to focus.  Daddy sometimes doesn't leave to work til around 9 and then we spend time getting our morning routine done.. (get dressed, brush teeth, start wash, feed pets, etc)  n”,1]
