Wednesday – Craft day

I still had Anna do some reg. school work.. you know.. math, phonics, reading.. Then my friend and her kids came to dissect owl pellets.. that was awesome!

For school Tuesday we did something different, we did a children’s devotional then Anna did exercises off a kids program on demand (the one thing I will miss about cable).  After that we just read a section of Little house.. then talked about it.. then did math.

After Math, we read another section which was about ma’s chores, we talked about her chores and our chores.. and how laura loved churning days and baking days.

Then we moved to phonics

so we just kept reading sections of the book and talking or doing some things that pertained to it.  We also sang yankee doodle, read a book about it and watched james cagney perform it on the computer (which anna had to get out her tap shoes and dance  we also watched a bear catch salmon on youtube and found out what he does when his ears get (they don’t like wet ears).  Oh and looked up some pretty pictures of frost on the glass (Laura talks about Jack frost in this chapter.. )

she did some reading, and colored a pic of a bulldog to make it brindle (after we looked up what that was), and we had lunch

after lunch anna helped me make bread and butter..

blurry pic of anna straining the buttermilk out of the butter..

one loaf got so tall it hit the electric grate on the top of the oven.

yum.. just had to have a slice of warm bread..

the bread and butter took all afternoon and we read some more of the chapter.  she also did another page of reading and helped me clean up..somewhat.

Everything came out great.. including dinner, cantonese noodles.. oh and I made applesauce bran muffins this morning too.. can I just say .. I rocked!  lol.

Today I am sitting here with my homemade bread toasted and my homemade butter.. and drinking raspberry tea.  I can’t help it .. my bread never comes out so I am very happy right now.

Yesterday was our 1st day of school.  I had spent the morning preparing.. all rooms are picked up. laundry folded and put away, another load ready to go down, all school materials out .  Anna did her chores.  I have created a very basic schedule.
6-9am – prepare for the day – all rooms picked up, breakfast done, pets taken care of and laundry started
9-12 – school.  mostly seatwork type stuff
12 – lunch
1-3 hands on school
3-6 – afternoon cleaning chores as well as preparing for dinner

I had an appt at 1 so I knew we were not going to be doing much in the afternoon.

well.. let’s see.

I did all the morning stuff and felt great.. When it came time for school we started with reading.. oh my word.  Anna was so not interested because there were no pictures (newer books).. She couldn’t answer half of my questions.  I stopped alot and tried to make it totally interesting.. she was fidgity and ugh.. it wasn’t pretty..

Then we did some simple exercises..

Then Math.  1 page was all she did.. usually she does 2 pages in about 30 min.. 1 page=1 hour.. totally not kidding!

so then we go over what fiction/non fiction, biography/autobiography, then move to phonics..
4 pages = about 45 min!  totally not normal for her.. ok..

Shared some dried apples, which she did not like.. talked about preserviing foods like laura’s ma did.

Then read to daddy.. My daughter forgot how to read.. (3 weeks of no school and she forgot how to read??? )  ahhhhh!!!!

ok.. let’s do the grizzly bear worksheet.. we have a great picture book from the library.. she answered questions, describe the bear.. I wrote it on scrap (in her words) she wrote it on the paper.. lifespan, habitat, diet, etc.  But we were not able to finish.. time to go to my appt.  made her a quick tuna sandwich and rushed out the door.

I have been having to send my aids in alot to be fixed.. also can not hear out of my right aid.. we talk about my strange earwax (oily) and the damage it is causing, best way to clean it etc.  Then he went to adjust my aids so he hooked me up to the computer and did a hearing test.  my hearing has shifted.. the left slightly, the right was significant.  my aids are now at maximum.. so I am slightly losing my hearing more.  He wants to see me back in 2 months.

then we head to the store.. pick up some things needed for schooling this week.  Couldn’t find pork fat so can’t make lard or cracklings.. 😦 (yes I am weird)..

Come home , call oil company, we can still get in a prepaid fixed rate (min 500 gallons) for the price of 4.39 a gal.  yikes.. but needs to be done.  Angel ran down to sign the contract..

I put away the food and other items..then started writing this.. I am tired and want to go back to bed!  sigh.. but the day must continue.. I will keep pushing on..

guess I will cut up the meat and make some cantonese noodles for dinner, possibly fold a load of clothes and get anna to work on her after noon chores.. but first maybe a 30 min nap… hmm

angel came back.. contract done.. whew.. he is now running out to get the scooter tuned or something, it is thundering here but no rain (yet). I think I will go and lay down..

well angel came home because it started  I laid down, he came in , anna came in.. suddenly the next thing I know they are doing shadow puppets, daddy’s hand crushing anna’s anna laughing and jumping all over the bed.. finally they left and I slept a little bit.  I am up now.. looks like we are doing a fend for yourself dinner.. which is fine with me.  (stomach not doing well..probably from cheeseburgers at mcd’s on the way to hearing aid place)..

made pb and jelly sandwiches for dinner.. Anna and I started talking more about food preservation.  We talked about the jam and what would happen if we left a strawberry on the pantry shelf for a month.. but the jam is ok.. then we did a yeast experiment.

We took iced cold water, hot boiling water, and room temperature water.. and added yeast to each one.

The yeast (or bacteria) grows fast in room temperature (the reason we have to refridgerate our food..) Anna really liked this.. the only thing that confused her was the salted fish .. Ma salted the fish and it was stored in the pantry.. we had some salted codfish so I showed her.. she was a tad confused and said.. so we put salt on our food (at the table) so we won’t get sick!

Even though it was a rough start.. I think it was a good day.. she was able to get all her necessary items done and learned a bit little house style.  We will see how today goes..

and I leave you with a pic of a precious baby boy!

Ok.. this has been in my email now a few times.. started thinking it might be fun to blog.. anyone who does this please leave a comment and I will go read..

More Random thoughts…

Monday – Anna was sick poor baby..she had a temp.. she was a zombie.. literally just sat there staring at the tv.. didn’t move, wouldn’t eat.. nothing.  We had to cancel her going to VBS.  Wasn’t gonna happen at this point.  By Monday night.. she was talkative, and mouthy.. yes my child is mouthy.. or starting to be.. she has an attitude… like from someone from Icarly or hannah montana attitude.. I may have to start paying more attention to that.. she likes to test us in that area..

Dinner was to be Lamb ribs.. and scallop potatoes.. ooops.. wait.. found bad bag of potatoes, scratch that.. ok.. make rice.. Angel came home to make ribs.. and he killed them.. I mean seriously blackened! we cut into it.. it is totally raw in the middle.  So he slices it up and tells me to keep an eye on it.. he is going to the store to get something else in case this doesn’t turn out.. I go check on the meat.. it is up in flames.. each piece engulfed !  It was not good.. and probably hilarious watching me blow out each flaming rib.. so dinner.. buffalo wings from the corner store!  lol

Tuesday – anna feels 100% better.. whoo hoo.. she wants to go to VBS.  I spend the morning alone, planning lessons.  Putting library books on hold.. the works.. It was a quiet moment.  Well, aside from David coming out to show me the new tunes he learned to play on the guitar.. but I will admit.. I enjoyed that part.  Anna come home, excited.. she had a blast.. We are having a great day.. until..

We get a call.  “Do you have 2 missing beagles?”  Umm.. did they leave my yard!  Ok.. now most of you remember I tore a ligament in December.. so needless to say I still get pains down that leg if I am doing alot of walking and such.. well they are not exactly around the corner.. they are a bit further than that!  I call back to let her know that I have to walk but I will get there as soon as possible.  She tells me her grandaughter is doing her best to keep them from taking off… So I rush as fast as I can.. I get there and they are trying their best to contain them to the deck..LOL.  I hook them up and we have a very long chat.. Now I am in pain.. but I am not rude (or try not to be),  turns out the granddaugher and her mom raise beagles.. so it was a nice conversation (imagine having 11 of these dogs!!!  yikes!! I can’t even handle 2!).. we start the trek home.. now they are pulling and they pull in different directions.. (yes.. I need a visit from the dog whisperer, badly!).. I finally get home, my back kills, my leg kills, my arm kills.. and angel is on his way home.. was dinner ready.. umm.. no.. was not happening at that time.  So after a late dinner  and I tried to watch Eureka with him.. I went to bed.. Anna tried to join me.. but she was talkative .. and I was snapping at her.. I finally said.. honey.. I am sorry I am yelling at you.. but mommy hurts right now.. she said.. “I think I am gonna go sit with daddy” and

Yesterday, Anna is not feeling well.  So we cancel vbs.. she says sore throat and runny nose.  Angel decides to work from home because it is literally pouring buckets.. and ethan is coming.. We had a great time with Ethan.. but Ethan wasn’t feeling so good either.. teething, runny  nose, watery eyes, and not wanting to eat.  We later discover that his mommy has pink eye.. by the end of the night, anna’s eyes are watery, irritatiing her and finally gunk forming .. my eyes are irritated too!  uh oh..

Last night she fell asleep.. I look at her and the gunk is all around her eyes.. it is pretty definate.. however, I have never seen pink eye happen that fast!  So did she get it from Ethan’s mommy? or does someone else have it (possibly at VBS) .. oh boy.. So we have to cancel our plans for our Anniversary today.. Anna does not want to give this to mimi and papa.  Sigh..

Top that off with the discovery that my dogs are heavily infested and the natural methods are not working on them.. I had to give in and give them the toxin treatment and now get to watch them as they suffer the sickness they get every time…

There is my exciting week so far…
